After 11+ years working for Calvin and CalvinAyre.com, it’s hard to say goodbye. I’ve left this to the last couple of hours and imbibed a few Bombay Sapphires to ease me through it. Still, I’ve written and deleted and wrote again, but the best I can say right now is that it’s been an incredible ride.

The laughter was not polite or ironic. It was the roar of an audience genuinely doubling over.

Humor is inherently subjective, but the only plausible reason to dismiss Carrot Top after seeing his show live isn’t a distaste for kitsch—it’s being easily offended.

Carrot Top deserves credit not only for his sharp punchlines, but for never growing bitter about becoming a punchline himself. He has always leaned into the jokes made at his expense. That self-awareness is precisely why his cameo in the end-credits photo collage of The Hangover landed so brilliantly.

What is Hi Lo?

According to the ASA’s Code for gambling advertising, anyone who “was, or seemed to be, under 25 years of age” must not be depicted gambling or playing a significant role in advertisements. 

The regulator concluded that the central figure’s youthful facial features, casual styling and excited demeanour gave the impression he was in his late teens or early twenties. 

As such, the ad violated rule 16.3 of the CAP Code (Edition 12).
